Scary Nightmare Lurks in Exec Compensatation Disclosure

Two words: abacus overload.

I have taken off my robe;
How can I put it on again?

Song of Solomon

What do you think about the new regulation increasing transparency of executive salary compensation at publicly traded, U.S. companies reported below?

A bureaucratic nightmare? Not in the computer age. The business community's resistance is uncalled for. Of course, this might be coming largely from firms more at risk of being perceived poorly in the public eye: the kind of company falling in the Financial Times' bailiwick. Still, why should not investors desire some equalizing means for comparing companies within an industry group, or comparing one industry to the next? Pay ratios appear a most reasonable data point for gaining some better sense of the business management climate over long durations. So, what's the harm in that?
