Unemployed Need Abundant Opportunity, Not a Handout

Extending unemployment insurance reveals how sick we are.

His left hand is under my head,
And his right hand embraces me.

Song of Solomon

With unemployment insurance being extended to 99 months (from the current 26), it should be plainly evident there is something seriously wrong with the U.S. economy.

Underutilized human resources ripe for productive employment need but abundant opportunity whose presence can proceed from great projects organized by a Congress but willing to exercise its rightful power to initiate and finance a suitable objective whose intention goes some way toward making up for disinvestment in the nation's physical economy over the past several decades. Too few appreciate the price we are paying for trillions of dollars whose investment in the physical economy has been deferred. Projects enhancing productivity that could have been built (financed at low rates via a National Bank), but were not, represent opportunities that could have been available to those who desperately need them right now. We need to get back on the path of the American System of Political Economy, and stat.
